About Nanette

For as long as I can remember my dad had some sort of camera in his hand. He was always taking pictures of his girls and extended family. He was a ‘cameraman’ for the ad business. He worked with a 5′x5′ camera – a beauty. I often ran to the lab after school so I could watch him work. You could smell the developing chemicals before you opened the door. The fumes just engulfed the whole space and welcomed me in. I loved it! He taught me a lot during those long nights. He bred the obsession I have for photography. My dad owned a camera that I lusted over from the age of 6. The smell of the leather case and strap, the pop up viewer, dual lenses- a Twin Lens Reflex – a work of art. (Do you hear the choirs of angels singing? The trumpets blaring? I did.) I’d sneak into his closet every chance I could and take it out of its case, just to look at it. When he finally let me take a picture with it. It was an indescribable feeling.

Over the years I’d been given ‘point and shoots’, but my prize possession was given to me on my 17th birthday. My own Pentax camera with macro, wide angle and telephoto lenses. I had my own set-up! My dad rocked that day.

From that moment to this day taking pictures has made me. I hope you enjoy my images as much as I loved taking them.
